Introduction
Hallo!! My name is Takaaki Kono.
I’m from Yokkaichi in Mie prefecture. Mie prefecture is famous for food such as Matsusaka beef and Ise shrimp. There is also a theme park like Nagashima Spurland. Yokkaichi city became famous for the pollution problem which is called Yokkaichi asthma in the past but is now famous as an industrial city.
Currently I’m a graduate student at Fukui University and I’m 23 years old on April 26th.
My favorite food is sushi and when I go to conveyor belt sushi restaurant, I eat a lot.
I am having the most fun while talking with my friends.
I was in the YOSAKOI circle of Fukui University from the first year students until the third grade summer. The name of that circle is said to be "Yossyakoi". Practice is held every Monday and Friday. When we dance YOSAKOI with Naruko, we say that is YOSAKOI. In holding a festival everywhere in Japan, our circle will go there and dance. In this circle, I participate not only in the festival in Fukui prefecture but also in the festival outside the prefecture such as Nagoya, Osaka, Kyoto. I have a lot of memories in this circle, I also liked YOSAKOI. If I have the opportunity I would like to continue YOSAKOI.
Nice to meet you.

S P A C E SMy research topicI am studying about polymer chemistry, but I think that it is a very innovative field. My research topic is radical polymerization of vinyl ether. In general, vinyl ether is polymerized by cationic polymerization rather than radical polymerization, and its polymers are applied in various aspects in our lives. Examples include antithrombogenic films, highly heat resistant liquid crystal materials with high strength, and stimuli-responsive gels with temperature responsiveness.
The reason why vinyl ether does not undergo radical polymerization is believed to be that vinyl ether has an electron donating group in its side chain, so that the generated radical cannot stably exist and occurs β-scission, which is a side reaction. Even if polymerized, it is due to back-biting, only oligomers are obtained, and polymerization hardly progresses. However, in recent years, we have found that vinyl ethers having hydroxyl groups in side chains are capable of radical polymerization. It is believed that this is due to the formation of hydrogen bonds between vinyl ether monomers having hydroxyl groups in the side chain and the electron density of the vinyl group has been reduced, so that β-scission was carried out and radical polymerization proceeded. On the other hand, there is a crown ether as a compound that interacts with oxygen in the same way, and since the crown ether has an unshared pair of electrons inside the ring, it has a feature that cations are easily included. So I think that oxyethylene chain encapsulates metal ions like crown ether, so that the electron density of the vinyl group decreases and the polymerization accelerates. The experimental operation is very simple. The monomer to be polymerized and the initiator are placed in a Schlenk, stirred by heating, and molecular weight is measured by gel permeation chromatography. Polymerization of monomer and initiator alone is called bulk polymerization. In addition, there is also polymerization using a solvent, at this time the polymerization is carried out with metal salt. Whether a metal salt acts on a monomer can be confirmed by NMR, but it is not clear how it actually works. Although we have done a lot of polymerization so far, at this stage, even if the polymerization proceeds, high molecular weight polymers cannot be obtained and the conversion rate is not high. I will investigate the polymerization condition in more detail from now on and I will try hard to achieve radical polymerization of vinyl ether. |
